An Afghan for you to knit up quickly from Whiteworks Christening Gowns. Easy Triangle Afghan Once I invested in the size 15 (circular) knitting needles and tried my first 2-strand afghan, I couldn't be stopped. Here's an easy pattern, and any design works, because the combination of two colors is the pattern. You just don't have to get fancy. Plain old knit stitch all the way through is great, too! I purchased 3 skeins each of 2 shades of blue, Super Saver, Red Heart Yarn for this, and only used 2 of each color, as I recall. With size 15 needles and two strands of yarn, worsted weight: Cast on 120 + 10 (10 for side borders of 5 stitches each, and any multiple of 6 for the pattern stitch.) Seed stitch for the first 6 rows. Begin all rows with seed stitch (K1 P1 K1 P1 K1) for borders on both sides of afghan. Knit the purl stitches, and purl the knit stitches on the return. Pattern row: Seed stitch for 5, then K5 P1 across, seed stitch last 5. Row 2: P Row 3: K4 P2 Row 4: P Row 5 K3 P3 Row 6: P Row 7: K2 P4 Row 8: P Row 9: K1 P5 Row 10: P Repeat all 10 pattern rows until this is long enough for you, and end with 5 or 6 rows of border/seed stitch.
This makes a super gift for mom in her favorite shades. White and ecru combination goes with everything, and is so elegant!
Try a swatch, as I did, with 2 strands of Wool-Ease, (Lion Brand Yarns) and just start knitting. Throw in a cable, add a bobble or two, and before you know it, you're designing your own! It's easy. |
