The Ayrshire Style Christening gown  $365.00

The Ayrshire christening…a momentous occasion in a wee Scottish baby’s life, bringing him into the lime light amongst friends and family--all wishing him a healthy long life and prosperity.  A time of murmured congratulations, slaps on the back, and the only time a few glasses of wine could be enjoyed by ladies in public!  

 

This gown is a full 3 feet long, heavily embroidered down the front, traditional “robings” on the sides of the front area streaming from the waist to hem.  It has puffy sleeves, gathered into a cuff, or pulled up with ribbons as shown, a rounded neckline, and the unique bodice! 

Made of imported Irish handkerchief linen this gown best follows christening gown traditions from Scotland. 
The photo below shows Celtic motifs incorporated in the embroidery as requested by one customer:

The Welsh dragon is embroidered on the top, the Celtic knot cross below it, and below the cross is the claddaugh with 3 thistles to the left and the Irish harp to the right, though it appears to be lost in the fold.  You may choose your embroidery.

 The Ayrshire style gown gets its name from the distinctive “V”-shaped piece of embroidered fabric, edged in lace coming to a point at the bottom center of the bodice.  As I understand it, this little pointed flap of fabric was traditionally worn outside the skirt for a boy and tucked inside the gown, out of sight, for a girl.

You now have both options on one gown!

The top of the 3-foot-long gown closes in back with ribbon ties.

A matching bonnet comes with this gown as well as a personalized slip made of soft cotton batiste.

  This high end gown will require a bit of time to put together, quite possibly 2 weeks.  Please order early!

The family's crest was digitized and embroidered on the center of this gown.  A true family heirloom.
