The Celtic/Irish Christening
Gown and hat, embroidered with Baby's name, no extra charge.
$185.00
All of the Celtic christening gowns seen on this page are made of Irish handkerchief linen
from Ulster, Ireland.
The embroidered designs are Celtic in nature: knots; claddaghs; shamrocks;
thistles; knotted crosses. But you may choose whatever
motifs you wish!
Simple straight lines make for a tailored look.
This is an elegant and traditional
style for both boys and girls. Linen is arguably the oldest and strongest,
most endurable fabric. (Mummies
were wrapped in linen and were found in wonderful condition!)
This handkerchief linen is sheer, soft, and even gets softer the
more it's washed.
The neckline of this traditional gown is covered with a linen bias strip and the hem is finished with
either a small scalloped hem or French lace edging. It's your
choice.
Bonnets are made of the same linen and lace to match the gowns.
Gowns are approximately
36 inches long with a 55 inch circumference at the hem.
All of Whiteworks'
gowns close in back with ribbon ties for ease of fit.
Price of $185 includes shipping cost anywhere in the US via priority mail! That's
2 to 3 days.
All embroidery is included in the cost of these Celtic gowns.

This classic gown is shown above with the knot cross on the chest and matching crosses around the hem. No
lace (unless you would like it, no extra charge). Very basic and very elegant. Perfect for a wee
boy, tastefully simple for a little girl. Choose the embroidery that suits you...the crosses are merely a
suggestion. The gown shown has no
lace, all crosses, and you may email or phone me to add Baby's name and/or
date-no extra charge. Lace can be added, too!
The Celtic gown ties in back to fit many babies.
You may also order this gown with the ties in the
front! A front closure is traditional in some churches. Just
ask.
No extra charge.
The Knots and Shamrock gown:

By far our most popular gown, this Celtic gown
features a knot cross on the chest in white thread. Different
knots circle the hem of the skirt with 2 shamrocks beneath each knot.
Shown with pale green shamrocks. Following is a close up of the
skirt: (Also available without the shamrocks, or everything in
white thread, with or without lace...it all depends on what you would
like.) $185.00

...and the same knots and shamrocks gown with Baby's
first and middle name beneath the center cross, as well as the Big Day's
date:

(and you can see the bonnet with the cross and
shamrocks on the back of it.)
If you prefer puffier sleeves, (a free option), see them on the
Ayrshire gown, made of the same linen fabric.
They can be finished off in a cuff, or with the ribbon ties.
You can use the PayPal
button to order any Celtic gown on this page...just email or call me
with any changes... :) If I don't hear from you, you will
receive the Knots and Shamrocks gown, all white embroidery, with
lace in the size you choose. PLEASE give me some way to
contact you for shipping address, questions, etc. Thanks!!
Frolicking shamrocks gown ($185.00):

The small shamrocks start at the top of the skirt and cascade down
the front of the skirt to the embroidered hem. Shown with knots and crossed shamrocks
going around the hem, cross in center with baby's name and christening
date below. You may, of course, choose something different for the
bottom embroideries.

...and matching bonnet (made for a baby slightly
larger than my new-born size baby doll.) If you like all those
shamrocks going across the brim be sure to tell me. Choose a design for
the back, too.

"The Bridget", one Celtic cross in the center of the
skirt with shamrocks going around the hem, in white or light green-your
choice:

Fiona:

The skirt of this linen Celtic gown is embroidered in
colorful traditional Celtic motifs, pictured above with red roses
(optional) that flank the blue and gold knot cross while a harp, lacy
shamrock, claddaugh and thistles (hidden by the fold) go around the hem.
A blue Celtic knot cross is on the chest and lace is on the sleeves,
bonnet, and hem.

Many different crosses around the hem in white.
The Siobhan (sh'-VON) Here is the center motif
design that goes on the skirt:

Siobhan has a Celtic cross in the center, crossed shamrocks
beneath the cross, and heirloom leaves on either side. The shamrocks and
leaves continue around the hem of the gown. Or you may with to have this
whole design repeat (there's room for one more on each side for a total of 3 and
possibly something small between them!). $185.00
This center design is much too large for the bodice...perhaps
you'd like just the cross and shamrocks?
The basic bodice on all of these Celtic gowns, you choose a
motif for embroidery:

Back of gown ties with ribbons:

The linen bonnet comes with all linen christening gowns. Please note that the pink and white
striped fabric is a cover for the bonnet stand, not a part of the bonnet!
Below is a wreath or halo of shamrocks with the two crossed shamrocks beneath.

You may have any motif on the back of the bonnet you choose,
these are just some ideas for you.

All of the previous photos show gowns that are very popular,
but I urge you to customize and design your gown any way you choose.
IF you would like a short
dress for AFTER the ceremony, here is a suggestion...the Party
Dress. $75.00

See the Celtic Collection! An
embroidered slip and flannel blanket are included with your gown and bonnet.
This full collection, that includes a hanky, cape and booties as well, is
$425.00.
A more elaborately embroidered Celtic gown is the Celtic Diamonds gown.
A variation on the Celtic gown with center panel
is the Ian gown.
And a very traditional Celtic gown:
the Ayrshire Christening Gown, designed
closely with the styling of the Victorian Scottish christening gown of
the same name.
The Rhiannon, a shorter Celtic gown.
(pronounced ReeAnn)
This gown is 24" long, same Irish
linen and style, for $155.00.
A simpler design is shown with no lace, a cross and shamrock design on the front
of the skirt with 2 trinity knots, one on either side, and Baby's name
and date below the cross on the skirt. Matching cross on the
chest, short sleeves hemmed in a small scallop stitch.
