I love to read.  Let me share a thought or two with you:

Goddess of the Last Minute, Laughter and Lessons from an Uncommon Quilter, by Robbi Joy Eklow

This small book would make a lovely gift for a quilting friend, especially one who does free-motion/art quilts.  Each chapter is an essay written in the same style as her column (found on the last page of Quilting Arts Magazine).  You will find short ramblings on many different subjects, some even quilt related!  Some humorous, some insightful, some just plain fun.

Crazy Quilts:  History-Techniques-Embroidery Motifs
(Published in 2008 so it’s new!!)  by Cindy Brick with a foreword by Nancy Kirk.

Those first two words grabbed me over a month ago and I’ve not been able to shelve the book yet.
It’s a fascinating read!   Written by a quilt historian and loaded with gorgeous color photos, this book is very difficult to put down.   It’s very big on history and the motifs are covered by the lovely pictures.  Techniques are briefly touched because so many books are already out covering that topic.  Cindy Brick’s Light-Speed Crazy technique works, and her Road Warrior (or Assassin) Embellishment Technique cracked me up!

I highly recommend this beautiful book to any and all who have even a passing interest in crazy quilts.  It certainly stole my heart.

Helen Kelley's newest:  Loose Threads:  Stories to Keep Quilters in Stitches.

Hmm..“Stories to Keep Quilters in Stitches”
Yes.  Though I didn’t “get it” at first.

This is a reading book…one that made me feel like taking life slow for a minute. It’s a gentle ride through a quilter’s life through her eyes, a quilter who looks at things and stops to think about them, while she stitches by hand.  And lucky for us, she’s willing to take time out to write them down for us to read and enjoy.

We are alike in a very few ways:
I talk to myself, too.
I married a techno-wizard, too.
(OK, maybe only 2.  Similarities between me and someone I admire make me smile.  Even if it’s a pretty far stretch…it’s not hurting anyone.)

And I laughed: the pyramid
I (almost) cried: her Birthday!
I dreamed: “We are only going away for 4 days, for goodness sakes!”
I snuggled in: Cleaning the basement.
I wondered: Why DO children throw themselves down her stairs?
I wanted to make the book last but I really didn’t want to put it down.
So, I’m going to read it again.  Let me urge you to, too!
