Victorian Christening GownsThe most elegant heirloom in Baby's wardrobe is a gown made with the softest baby fabrics, sheer cotton batiste or Irish handkerchief linen, along with soft cotton French laces and embroidery! Made by machine to emulate the much-loved hand sewn techniques our foremothers used. They created the original works of art sometimes found today in attics or antique trunks. We can replicate many of those gowns today for use by many babies through the coming years! Call me! Let's design your dream gown. Here are a few suggestions from past customers. All silk Rose Bud Gown, made of silk dupioni and hundreds of hand made silk ribbon roses, complete with bonnet and slip. The Criswell Gown is made of soft cotton batiste ( a beautiful see-through fabric) that features a very fancy front panel of laces, decorative stitching and heirloom techniques. Click on the photo to go to the full description. The Casey is a bit more subtle, same fabric and laces with a more tailored look to the design: (made from a sketch of an antique baby gown) The Miranda, very full and it drapes beautifully! The Madison, featuring tucks and pintucks (very small tucks) along with lots of embroidery and a long full ruffle: The Maren, adapted from a 19th century sketch featuring many rows of puffing across a center panel with hand embroidered roses on the chest in pastel colored cotton floss: All My Children gown: And this silk Anna Garrin gown, designed by Martha Pullen! "Grandma" sent me the pattern and materials, I was the dressmaker.
